MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has approved the appointment of Justice Sardar Liaqat Hussain as the Chief Justice of the Azad Kashmir High Court.

Prime Minister, who also serves as chairman of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Council, named Justice Sardar Liaqat Hussain, Senior Most Judge of Azad Kashmir High Court, as CJ AJK High Court on the advice of President Azad Kashmir.

The notification stated that the appointment came following the retirement of the incumbent CJ Justice Sadaqat Hussain Raja.

The newly appointed chief justice belongs from Tehsil Mong (Jassa Peer Kanchri), Sudhnoti district of Azad Kashmir.

Justice Sardar Liaqat was appointed as Civil Judge and got his first posting at District Haveli Kahuta on February 24, 1998. During his service, he also served as Registrar of the High Court of Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Chairman of Inland Land Revenue, Azad Jammu Kashmir.

He took oath as Judge of the High Court of Azad Jammu & Kashmir on January 8, 2022.

The oath-taking ceremony of the Chief Justice AJK High Court will be held on June 9 at the Jammu and Kashmir House, Islamabad.
