ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a severe heatwave across the country, including Azad Kashmir, during the Eid-ul-Adha holidays.

The Met Office said that high pressure is likely to develop over the country on June 7 and is expected to grip most parts from June 8.

With this weather system, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan will experience a rise in normal day temperature by 05 to 07°C from June 7 to 12.

The heatwave will also grip Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and central and upper Punjab.

“Day temperatures are likely to remain 04 to 06°C above normal in the southern half (upper and central Sindh, southern Punjab, and parts of Balochistan) from June 07 to 12,” the PMD release stated.

In addition to that, dust storms and gusty winds are expected over the plains of the country due to excessive heating.

Due to these severe weather conditions, the met department has advised the general public to avoid exposure to direct sunlight during the daytime and stay hydrated. It also advised to use excessive water during the heatwave.
