ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan has rejected allegations by the Afghan Taliban government regarding its involvement in clashes in Nuristan, calling the claims “baseless and false.”
In a statement on Sunday, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said neither Pakistan nor its security forces or intelligence agencies were involved in fighting in Nuristan or anywhere else in Afghanistan.
The ministry also rejected claims that Pakistan had recruited or trained former Afghan government officials or facilitated any terrorist group, including Islamic State.
According to the statement, no verifiable evidence had been presented to establish Pakistan’s involvement. The ministry said no identities, documents, communication records or forensic evidence had been provided to substantiate the allegations.
It also said a video circulating on social media in connection with the incident did not establish any link to Pakistan.
Islamabad urges Kabul to act against militants
The ministry referred to United Nations reports on the presence and activities of terrorist groups in Afghanistan, saying their operations from Afghan territory pose a threat to Pakistan and regional security.
It urged the Afghan authorities to address their internal security challenges and take action against militant groups, while fulfilling their commitment that Afghan territory would not be used for terrorism against Pakistan or any other country.
The statement also criticised the Taliban government’s system as non-inclusive and non-representative, alleging that the accusations against Pakistan could divert attention from internal differences and restrictions affecting women, children and minorities.
