ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A new debate has erupted on social media after Indian NSA (National Security Advisor) Ajit Doval said in a recent program that ‘history will have to be avenged.’

Ajit Doval said in an event that ‘history challenges us. Every youth should have that fire within them. The word ‘revenge’ is not good, but revenge itself is a power. We have to avenge our history.’

Several opposition leaders in India have condemned his statement. However, some people, including the BJP, are standing by him.
Former Chief Minister of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir and People’s Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti called Doval’s statement ‘regrettable’.

Mehbooba Mufti wrote on social media platform X that “It is extremely unfortunate that a high-ranking officer like Doval, whose duty is to protect the country from internal and external nefarious designs, has indulged in a communal ideology of hatred and normalized violence against Muslims.”

Former NDA ally Mehbooba Mufti said that “the demand for revenge for centuries-old events in the 21st century is just a hoax that incites poor and illiterate youth to target the minority community, which is already facing attacks from all sides.”

Ajit Doval further added that “You are very lucky to be born in an India that is free. India was not always as free as you see it. Our ancestors have made many sacrifices for it, have endured many humiliations, and many people have been left helpless since the time of Bhagat Singh.

Subhash Chandra Bose had to struggle all his life, Mahatma Gandhi had to do Satyagraha, and countless people had to sacrifice their lives,” Ajit Doval told the young audience present at the ‘Developed India Young Leaders Dialogue – 2026’ on Saturday.

He further said, “Our villages were burnt, our civilization was destroyed, our temples were looted, we watched helplessly like silent spectators. This history challenges us. The word revenge is not good, but revenge itself is a great power.”
