ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Islamabad Police IG has claimed to have arrested the suspect involved in the tragic murder of serving Group Captain Asim Tariq.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, IG Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi said that the suspect Saad Abbasi was arrested within just 9 hours of the incident.

He stated the case was extremely challenging for the police because the martyrdom of a serving Group Captain in public firing was a matter of grave concern.

Shedding light on the details of the incident, the IG said that the suspect Saad Abbasi and the victim woman worked together and, being residents of the Khanna area, used to travel to and from duty together.

“At the time of the incident, the suspect wanted to take the woman with him by force, however, the woman insisted that she would not go with him to any other place.”

PAF Officer saved the woman

The IG further said that the martyred Group Captain Asim Tariq had intervened at the scene to save the woman from the suspect’s coercion and alleged kidnapping attempt.

He said that at 11:21 AM, the suspect opened fire at Group Captain Asim, who embraced martyrdom while protecting the life and honour of an innocent woman.

According to police officials, further investigation of the suspect is underway, and all legal requirements will be fulfilled to ensure he receives strict punishment according to the law.

The sources said that the arrested suspect (20) is a matriculate and a resident of Band Khanna Road within the jurisdiction of Khanna Police Station. He also worked as a salesman at an electronics shop.

He wanted to forcibly take the girl with him but she refused which also led to a scuffle between the girl and the suspect.

The serving PAF Officer stopped the suspect from being forceful with the girl upon which the suspect became enraged and opened fire on him and fled.
