MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English/GM Bukhari): Government in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has warned against low wages for teachers and fee hike in private educational institutions.
AJK Education Department issued a notification in this regard which warns private educational institutions from paying less than minimum wage.
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Azad Government of the State of Jammu and Kashmir, has issued a notification after violation by some private educational institutions, warning of strict action.
According to the department, some institutions are not paying teachers and staff the officially mandated minimum wage, are affecting students’ education despite collecting advance fees from parents.
The notification clarifies that all private educational institutions must ensure the payment of minimum wages to teachers and non-teaching staff, and they must not involve in any activity other than education, adding holidays will only be announced with the approval of the Education Department.
Violators to face action
The Education Department has warned that immediate legal and administrative action will be taken against institutions that violate these directives.
The government has strictly instructed the owners and heads of private educational institutions not to pay their teaching and non-teaching staff less than the officially mandated minimum wage.
The notification clarifies that teachers and staff cannot be paid less than the minimum wage and that teachers, students, and staff are prohibited from being involved in protests.
Only the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has the authority to announce holidays in schools, it added.
