ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The federal government has lifted the five-year age limit on the commercial import of used vehicles into Pakistan, allowing the import of vehicles without the previous age restriction.
The Ministry of Commerce confirmed the decision through an office memorandum issued on October 30, 2026, following clarification sought by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
Previously, commercial importers were allowed to import only used vehicles that were no more than five years old. The government had announced plans to remove the restriction in June under the National Tariff Policy 2026–27.
The latest notice now confirms that the five-year age limit, as per the previous decision of the federal cabinet, has been lifted from July 1, 2026.
The FBR sought clarification from the Ministry of Commerce on October 23 after the previous restriction was due to expire on June 30, 2026.
The ministry has now confirmed that the five-year age limit has been lifted for vehicles imported on and after July 1, meaning that the ban on commercial imports of used vehicles after that date no longer applies.
Conditions still apply
However, importers will still have to comply with applicable import policy requirements and meet environmental and safety standards prescribed by the Ministry of Industries and Production and the Engineering Development Board (EDB).
The memorandum does not specify any new maximum age limit for commercially imported used vehicles. Importers will still have to comply with other relevant import regulations and prescribed safety and environmental standards.
