ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The private news channel, Geo News, has informed the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Council of Complaints that the individuals responsible for producing and approving a controversial religious documentary have been removed from their positions following an internal inquiry.
During the hearing before the Council of Complaints, Supreme Court lawyer Saim Hashmi, on behalf of Geo News, “unconditionally admitted the mistake on the part of the management, and apologized”.
Representing the channel, Hashmi and High Court lawyer Arbaaz Khan also shared all relevant documents with the Council, which stated that the management of Geo News, after an urgent inquiry, has dismissed the person responsible for making the documentary and a member of the editorial committee that approved the documentary.
Advocate Saim Hashmi told the Council that the management has decided to make a religious scholar part of its editorial committee in order to minimize the possibility of any such mistake in the future.
The religious scholar will monitor the sensitive religious content being broadcast and prevent any future mistakes, the channel said.
