MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Food Authority Muzaffarabad is taking action against milk vendors for selling substandard milk with the help of a mobile food testing lab.

The respective food safety team collected the samples outside of vendors, in the zero points, and carried out the analysis onsite, revealing samples containing Skimmed Milk Powder (SMP).

It should be remembered that Skimmed Milk Powder (SMP) is used as an adulterant in various dairy products, such as adding SMP to fresh milk to increase its solid content, thus increasing the profit margin.

Adulteration with SMP can affect the nutritional content, taste, and quality of milk products, which is harmful to human health. The Food Authority team destroyed the milk on the spot by imposing heavy fines on milk sellers selling harmful milk.

District Food Controller Muzaffarabad/Jhelum Valley, Abrar Ahmed Mir, said that providing quality and safe food to the citizens is the top priority, and for this purpose, the scope of the crackdown has been further expanded.

Action has been initiated against defective and substandard milk sellers under the Food Authority Act. We will ensure the supply of quality milk free from adulteration. Report on the number given by the Urban Food Authority 1280, immediate action will be taken.

Earlier, the Food Authority AJK took action, conducting a Food Safety Operation in Jhelum Valley against shopkeepers selling substandard products by conducting inspections, fining violators, and warning businesses to improve food safety standards.

The Food Authority has launched an operation in the Jhelum Valley district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) against shopkeepers selling unhealthy edible oil and substandard meat. During the inspection, authorities collected milk samples, and those found to contain more than 18 per cent adulteration were penalised on the spot. The crackdown aims to ensure that consumers receive safe and quality food products.

As part of the operation, fines were imposed on violators who were caught selling unhygienic food items. Officials emphasised that strict action would continue against those compromising public health by selling low-quality and contaminated food products. Businesses that do not follow food safety standards will suffer extreme penalties.
