ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Foreign Office has clarified that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s recent visit to Iran was not undertaken in the capacity of US President Donald Trump or as a representative of the United States.
Speaking at the weekly media briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said the Field Marshal’s visit to Iran was part of Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region and finding a negotiated solution.
The spokesperson said Field Marshal Asim Munir held discussions with Iranian officials as part of efforts to promote de-escalation and regional stability.
Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan remains in contact with brotherly countries to help end tensions in the region and address the ongoing Middle East crisis. He added that Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts are focused on promoting peace and stability and creating conditions for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, the Iranian leadership has appreciated Pakistan’s role and diplomatic efforts in this regard.
The spokesperson also said that the Prime Minister will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conference in Bishkek, where he is expected to hold bilateral meetings with participating leaders.
He said Pakistan has assumed the chairmanship of the SCO for one year and will host the SCO conference in Islamabad in 2027.
