TEHRAN (Kashmir English): Field Marshal and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Asim Munir met Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian during his fourth visit to Iran since hostilities broke out.
The meeting focused on efforts to de-escalate tensions, facilitate the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and accelerate diplomatic efforts aimed at bringing the conflict to an end.
The discussions came amid heightened regional tensions and growing international concerns over the impact of the hostilities on regional stability, trade and maritime traffic.
The Army Chief, along with Pakistan’s Interior Minister, has now concluded the visit to Iran and departed after holding meetings with senior Iranian leadership.
The visit underscores Pakistan’s continued efforts to engage with regional stakeholders and contribute to diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalation and restoring stability.
Field Marshal Asim Munir meets Iranian Speaker Ghalibaf in Tehran
Earlier, Field Marshal Asim Munir called on Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf during his visit to Tehran, Iranian state-run IRNA reported.
During the meeting, Ghalibaf, who is also the head of the Iranian negotiating team with the US, said that Tehran is pursuing the implementation of the terms of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, and it is the “US that must adhere to its commitments based on the memorandum of understanding.”
The IRNA reported that Qalibaf reviewed numerous cases of America’s breach of commitments in implementing the Islamabad MoU.
“The commitments of the parties in the MoU are clear, and it was the US that prevented stability in the region by breaching its commitments and creating another reason for distrust in this country,” the parliament speaker was quoted as saying.
According to the broadcaster, Field Marshal Asim Munir also noted that Pakistan will continue its efforts to restore stability in the region.
Earlier, Field Marshal Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in Tehran, Pakistan TV reported.
