ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): National Highways and Motorway Police have made it mandatory for all vehicles, especially passenger and cargo vehicles, to carry working fire extinguishers.

In a statement, NHMP spokesperson said these special safety measures are being implemented to prevent fire hazards during accidents and to protect lives and property.

The Motorway Police said strict action will be taken after June 24 against vehicles not following the SOPs. It also warned that passenger and cargo vehicles without fire extinguishers will not be allowed to enter motorways after the deadline.

A nationwide fire safety awareness campaign has also started and will continue till June 24, the statement added.

During the campaign, drivers and transporters will be informed about the importance, use, and working conditions of fire extinguishers.

Moreover, Drivers have been asked to check expiry dates and working condition before starting their journey. Non-working or expired equipment will not be accepted, it added.
