ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The federal government on Friday officially announced a four-day public holiday on the occasion of Eid ul Adha 2025, starting from Friday, June 6.

The notification issued by the Cabinet Secretariat stated, “The Prime Minister has been pleased to declare 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th June, 2025 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday) as public holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.”

The four-day holiday from June 6 to June 9 will be observed by both all government offices and institutions, observing a five and six days’ working week.

The notification states that the holidays have been declared in continuation of the Cabinet Division’s circular dated December 23, 2024, regarding public and optional holidays.

The announcement came after the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed that Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated on June 7 all across the country, following the Zilhaj moon sighted on May 28.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is one of the most important Islamic holidays. Muslims around the world celebrate it in remembrance of the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to Allah.

On this day, Muslims offer special prayers and sacrifice animals such as goats, cows, or camels. The meat is then distributed among family, friends, and the poor.

The citizens have been asked to make proper arrangements for animal sacrifices and to follow health and safety guidelines during the Eid holidays.
