ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has finalized a decision to utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) to curb tax evasion and detect inaccuracies in income tax returns.
According to media reports, the primary objective of this significant government decision announced on Sunday is to enhance the transparency of the revenue system through modern technology and to eliminate elements that cause financial loss to the national exchequer.
An FBR spokesperson clarified that this new, state-of-the-art AI-based automated audit system will enable the immediate and accurate identification of taxpayers who submit false or incomplete information in their returns.
The spokesperson stated that any individual or entity found submitting incorrect details in their returns will face immediate and strict disciplinary action.
The tax authority has explicitly warned that any form of misrepresentation in income tax returns will result in severe action under the relevant laws.
The FBR has issued special instructions to all taxpayers to maintain meticulous records of their financial transactions.
It must be ensured that all information provided in tax returns is 100% accurate and supported by appropriate documentary evidence.
This significant, modern initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to document the economy and expand the tax net, aiming to overcome traditional systemic flaws.
It should be noted that the FBR has set September 30 as the deadline for filing income tax returns, after which defaulters will face a new automated system.
