ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Faisal Shafi, a renowned Pakistani marathon runner and multiple world record holder on international marathon stages, will run the upcoming Chicago Marathon with a mission beyond personal achievement, to raise funds for those affected by the devastating floods in Pakistan.
Shafi, 43, has set a goal of raising PKR 5 million through donors and private donations. The money raised will be distributed to flood-affected families in Pakistan through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency.
This year in Chicago, I will run for a cause, Shafi said in a statement before leaving for the US. Marathons are not just about personal glory. They can also serve as a powerful platform to raise awareness and help those in need.
Our compatriots are still suffering due to the recent floods, and it is everyone’s responsibility to step up and help them.
He further stressed that all funds will be managed and transferred through a transparent process to ensure accountability. The Chicago Marathon is one of the prestigious global marathon majors, attracting elite runners from around the world.
It is worth mentioning that Faisal Shafi recently completed the Sydney Marathon, becoming the only Pakistani runner to achieve the seven-star milestone.
During the race, he wore a light military-inspired outfit to mark his achievement, setting a Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon run in a combat uniform.
