MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Pasban-e-Hurriyat Jammu Kashmir on Wednesday launched an awareness campaign titled “End Indian Occupation” against Indian military occupation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir ahead of October 27 Black Day.
As part of the campaign, an awareness walk was organized from Khatm-e-Nabuwat Chowk to the AJK Legislative Assembly in Muzaffarabad.
According to Pasban-e-Hurriyat, the campaign, which will last till October 27, will include meetings with political and religious parties, civil society representatives, businesspeople and youth to raise awareness about the occupation and human rights situation in occupied J&K.
Under the campaign, thousands of leaflets will be distributed in Muzaffarabad, Jhelum Valley and Neelum Valley, while awareness posters will be displayed at various locations, it said.
The organisation said the campaign aimed to highlight the events of October 27, 1947, when Indian troops arrived in Jammu and Kashmir, and the developments that followed.
Pasban-e-Hurriyat also announced that October 27 would be observed as Black Day, with protest rallies planned across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
Pasban-e-Hurriyat Chairman Uzair Ahmed Ghazali urged the people of AJK to participate fully in the state-wide protest campaign against Indian military occupation. He said that a protest day will be observed on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC).
Addressing participants at the rally today, Ghazali said the people of Jammu and Kashmir wanted the withdrawal of Indian forces and the right to determine their own future. He urged the United Nations to play its role in ensuring the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.
“Kashmiri people want a just and lasting solution to the Kashmir issue, and their political, fundamental and human rights should be respected,” he added.
Pasban-e-Hurriyat Vice Chairman Usman Ali Hashim said that the struggle for an end to Indian military occupation in Jammu and Kashmir and the right to self-determination would continue.
In addition, Bilal Ahmed Farooqi described the occupation as a violation of the UN Charter and called for a just resolution of the dispute.
Central Advisor of the Refugee Working Committee Sarandaaz Mir and Mukhtiar Hussain Bhatti, while describing the Kashmir issue as an incomplete agenda of the partition of India, said that the Kashmiri people should be given the right to self-determination for the establishment of real peace in South Asia.
Addressing the rally, Working Committee leaders Khawaja Muhammad Iqbal and Irfan Ahmed Bhat condemned alleged human rights violations in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir and urged international human rights organisations to intervene.
The speakers demanded that the political, fundamental, and human rights of the Kashmiri people be respected and that they be given the right to decide their future.
