MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The newly appointed members of the cabinet of the Azad Kashmir and Kashmir (AJK) government have taken the oath of office at the President Secretariat in Muzaffarabad on Friday.
Acting President of AJK Chaudhry Tariq Farooq administered the oath to eight newly appointed ministers.
The ministers who took the oath include Colonel (R) Waqar Noor, Azhar Sadiq, Abdul Rehman Arain, Raja Saqib Majeed, Dr Mustafa Bashir Abbasi, Muhammad Riyasat Khan, Sardar Mir Akbar, and Umair Naeem.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Prime Minister AJK Iftikhar Gilani, members of the legislative assembly, the chief secretary, government officials, and a large number of political and social figures.
The AJK cabinet secretariat earlier issued the notification of the appointment of the eight lawmakers as ministers.
The Prime Minister of the AJK Government approved the appointment of the ministers under the powers conferred by sub-article (1) of Article 14 of the Provisional Constitution of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, 1974, according to the notification.
According to the sources, Waqar Ahmed Noor will be given the Higher Education portfolio, Chaudhry Azhar Sadiq the Agriculture portfolio, Raja Saqib Majeed the Local Government portfolio, and Raja Umair Naeem the Education portfolio.
Moreover, Raja Riyatzat will get the Electricity portfolio, Sardar Mir Akbar Khan the Forest portfolio, Mustafa Bashir Abbasi the Health portfolio, and Abdul Rehman Arain, who won from the Overseas reserved seat, is likely to be given the Tourism and Industry portfolio, sources said.
