ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Earthquake tremors were felt in various parts of the country, including Islamabad and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Wednesday night, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said.

According to the PMD’s National Seismic Monitoring Center, the earthquake struck at 10:57 pm, with a magnitude of 5.3 and a depth of 174 kilometres.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush mountain region, the Met Office said.

The PMD said the tremors were felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mansehra, Shangla, Swat, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Battagram, Mardan, and Buner.

Earlier, the earthquake was also felt on June 27 in various parts of the country, including the federal capital, Islamabad, and various cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Earthquake tremors were felt in Shangla, Buner, Mardan, Charsadda, Swat, Swabi, Kohat, Karak, Malakand, Bajaur, Hangu, Lower Dir, South Waziristan, and surrounding areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In Azad Kashmir, tremors were also felt in Neelum Valley and Muzaffarabad and the surrounding areas. Severe earthquake tremors were felt in Diamer city and its surroundings in Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to the Seismological Center, the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.9, and the depth of the earthquake was recorded at 178 kilometers.

It should be noted that earthquake tremors were also felt in Balochistan the day before, after which Deputy Commissioner Musakhel said that the earthquake damaged more than 90 houses in the Chap area of ​​Rada Sham, and more than 20 people were injured when walls collapsed.
