RAWALAKOT (Kashmir English): Deputy Commissioner Poonch Sardar Umar Farooq has appreciated the performance of the Civil Defence Department, saying that the department played a very active and effective role in the context of the current regional security situation.
A special meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Poonch to review the performance of the Civil Defence Department more effective.
Chief Warden Civil Defence Organization/Mayor Municipal Corporation Rawalakot Sardar Abdul Naeem was also present on the occasion.
In the meeting, Important decisions were taken regarding the performance of the department, the current national and regional security situation, and the promotion of public awareness and training.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Warden Civil Defence Organization/Deputy Mayor Municipal Corporation Rawalakot Qazi Nisar Ahmed, Assistant Director Civil Defence Khalid Mahmood Qureshi, Councilor Sardar Aamir Khurshid, Chief Instructor Civil Defence, esteemed councilors and other concerned officials.
Addressing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Sardar Umar Farooq appreciated the performance of the department and said that in the context of the current regional security situation, the department has played a very active and effective role.
He said that promoting emergency awareness, emergency training and volunteerism at the public level is the need of the hour.
The Deputy Commissioner issued instructions in the meeting that a “Warden Post” should be established immediately in every union council and ward of Rawalakot district, where volunteers would be registered at the local level and training courses would be provided to them.
At least 20 volunteers would be nominated from each ward, to whom the Civil Defence Department would provide complete training so that they could deal with any emergency effectively.

He said that during the recent Pak-India tension, Civil Defence played a very effective and efficient role. Awareness of dealing with emergencies was raised among the citizens and training programs were organized on important topics like firefighting, first aid and emergency relief in different wards.
Deputy Chief Warden/Deputy Mayor said that the Civil Defence Volunteer Organization has rendered valuable services with national spirit, which is highly commendable.
All the councilors welcomed the decision and assured to organise training sessions and provide volunteers in their respective wards.
The Assistant Director Civil Defence assured that the training department is ready to provide services even on Sundays and other holidays.
Deputy Commissioner Sardar Umar Farooq directed that the establishment of warden posts, registration of volunteers, and training process should be started immediately so that the civil defence system across the district could be made more strong, integrated and functional.
This decision will not only make the protection and preparedness of citizens effective at the local level, but will also further strengthen the civil defence system at the national level.
