BHIMBER (Kashmir Digital): Deputy Commissioner Bhimber Chaudhry Haq Nawaz officially inaugurated the “Breastfeeding Campaign” organized at the DHO office to highlight the importance of World Breastfeeding Week.

During the inauguration ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted that it is mandatory to breastfeed the child from birth to 6 months of age, and this period must be continued for 2 years.

Deputy Commissioner Chaudhry Haq Nawaz said in his message that while emphasizing the benefits of breastfeeding, breast milk is the best gift of nature for children, which not only provides them with balanced nutrition but also helps in preventing various diseases.

Breastfeeding by the mother is declared beneficial for both the mother and the child. In the light of the Quran and Sunnah and modern medical science, there are countless benefits of breastfeeding. The mother herself will be protected from breast cancer, while the child will also be strong.

Campaign Duration

The campaign will continue from August 1 to August 7, with the aim of highlighting the importance of breast milk for the health and development of newborns and creating awareness about it at the public level.

He appreciated the efforts of the health department and said that such awareness campaigns are indispensable for social improvement and the better health of children.

During the inauguration, Advocate Khalid Hussain, District Information Officer Adnan Mukhtar, AD Health Waqas Nasr, and others participated, and it was determined to make the campaign a success.
DHO Bhimber Dr. Iram Batool gave a briefing and informed about the strategy, goals, and practical steps of the campaign. He said that during the campaign, awareness sessions will be held in all health units across the district.

The health of mothers and children is our first mission. All staff have been assigned responsibilities.
Referring to the mortality rate, the DHO said that 50 out of 1,000 children die before reaching the age of one year, which is alarming. All health staff should remain alert and serve, and inform the public.

This campaign should be made successful in all places, including schools, colleges, public places, and awareness walks.

Child Specialist Dr. Muhammad Khalil said that this session started for the first time in 1992. This program is being implemented worldwide with the support of the World Health Organization.

He said that if the child’s health is to be maintained, then breast milk should be given to the children in any case. Even in the case of normal delivery and operation, the mother can breastfeed her newborn child.

The child should be given breast milk 6 hours after the operation. Do not feed dry milk from a can. Breast milk should be given instead of cow or buffalo milk. Do not give the child milk. If you have to give milk, give only breast milk.

The point to understand here is that you see that animals also feed their children their milk.
In-charge Nutrition Program, Madam Nazia Nazir shed light on the benefits of the campaign in detail.
