LAHORE (Kashmir English): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a major expansion of the Punjab CM E-Bike Scheme, extending the programme to more than 125,000 students and removing the upfront down payment requirement.
Under the revised scheme, students will pay around Rs3,000 in monthly instalments, while the Punjab government will bear the interest and insurance costs.
The chief minister has also directed officials not to impose additional charges on students.
E-Bike Registration Portal to Launch Soon
The Punjab government has ordered the launch of the e-bike registration portal within a week, allowing eligible students to apply online. More than 18,500 bikes have already been distributed under the existing interest-free initiative.
The revised scheme marks a significant change from the earlier financing plan, which included a Rs70,000 government subsidy and a Rs14,000 down payment for male students.
The final eligibility criteria, required documents and confirmed instalment schedule are expected to be announced with the registration process.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be enrolled as a regular student in a degree college or university in Punjab recognised by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
- Have a valid motorcycle learner’s permit or driving licence.
- “If the number of applications is more than the available quota, beneficiaries will be selected through an e-balloting process,” officials noted.
The government said the initiative will ease the burden of students while reducing travelling costs and promoting environment-friendly vehicles throughout the province.
