MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) has postponed its proposed long march to Muzaffarabad due to a lack of public support and failed to mobilise people for the campaign.
The government sources have denied the action committee’s claims that the long march was delayed due to the ongoing negotiations with the authorities, and that the deadline has been set till July 21 for the implementation of demands.
Sources rejected claims that the march had been delayed because of negotiations with the government, describing such reports as baseless and contrary to reality. It asserted that the organisation had failed to mobilise sufficient public support and mobilisation for this campaign.
The organisation is currently completely deprived of the public support, organisational capacity, resources, and firm resolve required to launch a long march, sources said.
On the other hand, the clear and firm intention of the state institutions to deal strictly with the violent and anarchic elements has further exposed the weakness of this proposed protest movement.
“Lacking the courage to openly admit this failure, JAAC and its sympathisers are now preparing a self-made and fictitious narrative to save their reputation,” the government sources added.
It is being propagated that the march has been postponed due to negotiations or a possible compromise with the parties.
Such claims related to the JAAC’s postponement of the long march are being spread by a few fake and unreliable accounts and individuals who have neither a public mandate nor any legal authority to negotiate, sources added.
