LAHORE (Kashmir English): National team’s star batsman Babar Azam is likely to be made the captain of test team once again, according to media reports.

Media reports selection committee will make the announcement tomorrow in Lahore alongside with selection of squad for the tour of West Indies in a press conference.

The squad for the tour of England will be announced later, while Pakistan will play a series of two Test matches in the West Indies and three in England.

The selection committee of the Pakistan cricket team has sent Babar Azam’s name to the Chairman PCB for the appointment of the Test captain, which is likely to be approved in a day or two.

The Pakistan Cricket Board also considered the names of ODI captain Salman Ali Agha, Abdullah Shafiq and Imam-ul-Haq to lead the Test team in place of Shan Masood, but the selection committee could not agree on these names.

The current captain of the national Test team, Shan Masood, who has been leading since November 2023, has not shown much performance.

Under his captaincy, Pakistan also failed in home series, including a whitewash from Bangladesh, in addition to defeats to Australia and Africa against India.

Shan Masood captained Pakistan in 16 Test matches, winning only 4 while losing 12.

Babar Azam has proven to be a more successful Test captain compared to Shan Masood, under whose leadership Pakistan played 20 Test matches, of which 10 were won, 6 were lost and 4 matches ended without any result. Babar Azam’s win rate as a captain is much better than Shan Masood’s.
