DHAKA (Kashmir English): Pakistan opener Azan Awais has become the 14th Pakistani batter to score a century on Test debut on Sunday in the opening match of the Bangladesh series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.

The 21-year-old scored 103 runs off 165 balls with the help of 14 fours. He resumed the third day on 85 not out and surpassed the 100 runs mark in the 51st over of Pakistan’s innings by taking a single off Nahid Rana.

He also became the third batter after Fawad Alam and Umar Akmal to score a ton on debut in an away series.

Khalid Ibadulla was the first to achieve this mark in the longest format, while Yasir Hameed holds the distinction of smashing a century in each innings of his debut Test.

Other batters in this elusive list include Javed Miadad, Saleem Malik, Mohammad Wasim, Azhar Mahmood, Ali Naqvi, Younis Khan, Taufeeq Umar, Abid Ali, and Kamran Ghulam.

The first match of the two-Test series between Pakistan and Bangladesh is being played at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka.
