Australia batter Smith equals Test cricket record for most catches

DARWIN (Kashmir English): Australia star batter Steve Smith has equalled the world record for the most catches in Test cricket as he took three catches on the second day of the first Test against Bangladesh in Darwin.

Australia batter took his Test career tally to 218 catches drawing level with England’s Joe Root.

Smith achieved the landmark success in his 124th Test match, while Root took 218 catches in 166 Tests.

Most catches in Test cricket

Former India captain and star batter Rahul Dravid is third on the list with 210 catches. Former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene is fourth with 205 catches from 149 Tests, while former South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis is fifth on the list with 200 catches in 166 Tests.

The race between Smith and Root for the record for the most catches in Test cricket is likely to continue.

The first of the two-Test series between Australia and Bangladesh is under way in Darwin. England will begin a three-Test series against Pakistan on August 19.
