ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A local court in Mirpur has declared social media activist Ashiq Firdousi a proclaimed offender under Section 87 of the CrPC for not appearing before the court.
Legal proceedings against Firdousi, a resident of Chakswari, have intensified over allegations of making repeated inflammatory statements, spreading false information, and inciting the public.
According to sources, law enforcement authorities made multiple attempts to arrest the accused in connection with a registered FIR.
However, after he could not be located, the court issued arrest warrants under Section 204 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
When the accused failed to appear before the court despite the warrants, proclamation proceedings were initiated under Section 87 of the CrPC.
On July 3, 2026, a proclamation notice was issued, declaring him a proclaimed offender in accordance with the legal process.
According to sources, if the accused continues to evade court proceedings, further legal action may be initiated under the applicable law.
Such measures could include the filing of the final challan in absentia where permissible, seizure of property through court orders, freezing of identity card and passport, and other legal measures as provided under the law.
