GUMI (Kashmir English): Pakistan’s top javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem, has once again claimed a gold medal, this time at the Asian Athletics Championship in Gumi, South Korea, with a massive 86.40m throw.

Pakistan’s another athlete, Muhammad Yasir, finished eighth with a 75.39m throw.

Sachin Yadav of India secured the silver medal with a best throw of 85.16 metres, while Japan’s Yuta Sakiyama earned bronze after reaching a mark of 83.75 metres.

While Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, who was on top in the first few throws, managed to finish fourth with an 83.27m throw.

Javelin throw ace Nadeem kicked off his campaign at the Asian Athletics Championships final with a confident first throw of 75.64m. Later, he launched a massive 85.57-metre throw in his fourth attempt, putting him at the top of the table.

Arshad’s gold is Pakistan’s first and only medal at the ongoing Asian Athletics Championship. Earlier, Pakistan’s fastest female sprinter, Tameem Khan, finished 17th in the Women’s 100m heats with a 12.14.

Meanwhile, top sprinter Shajar Abbas ran a 47.17 in the Men’s 400m heats, and a 47.38 in the semi-finals, where he finished 12th. Abdul Mueed ran a 50.10 in the heats and finished 27th.

In August last year, Nadeem set a new Olympic record and won a gold medal in the men’s javelin final in Paris with a 92.97m throw.

Nadeem will soon be going to England to prepare for September’s World Athletics Championships.
