KABUL (Kashmir English): Armed opposition to the Afghan Taliban regime has intensified across Afghanistan in recent weeks, with several resistance groups targeting Taliban personnel, checkpoints, vehicles, gatherings and security installations in different parts of the country.
In a latest UN report, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that armed groups opposed to the Taliban claimed responsibility for 88 attacks across 21 provinces between May 1 and the end of July.
According to the statements issued by anti-Taliban groups, at least 10 armed operations were carried out over the past week in Kabul, Sar-e-Pul, Kandahar, Badakhshan, Kunar, Nuristan, Parwan and Paktia.
The resistance groups claim that at least 17 Taliban personnel were killed and 10 others wounded in these latest operations.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) has said that it increased activity in several provinces, including Nuristan and Sar-e-Pol, while other resistance groups have also claimed attacks against Taliban security positions and personnel.
In its latest statement, the AFF said that this morning, the Taliban launched an assault on the positions and strongholds of AFF commandos in Kamdesh district of Nuristan using ground forces and drones.
“The AFF commandos mounted fierce resistance and launched a planned counterattack against Taliban positions. So far, several Taliban outposts have fallen into the hands of Afghan AFF troops, and the enemy has been pushed back from the Arandu area and parts of Kamdesh district in Nuristan and Nari district in Kunar province,” it said.
On the other hand, the Afghanistan United Front (AUF), led by former Afghan Army General Sami Sadat, has continued operations in Kandahar, Kabul and Badakhshan, including targeting Taliban command and intelligence centers.
Earlier this month, the AUF claimed that it had carried out 43 operations in 14 provinces over the past month, claiming 74 Taliban members were killed and 35 others wounded.
The National Independence Front (NIF), on the other hand, has targeted Taliban military vehicles and security posts in Paktia, Salang, and Kandahar.
So far in September, there have been 39 armed resistance operations across Afghanistan, killing more than 69 Taliban personnel and wounding 30.
