ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A series of allegations have been made against Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, questioning the administrative appointments of his brother, Ziaur Rehman.

According to the claims, Ziaur Rehman, who served as a Grade-17 employee in the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), was appointed as an Assistant Commissioner and later promoted to Deputy Commissioner without qualifying through a provincial or federal competitive examination

Ziaur Rehman was a Grade-17 employee and engineer at PTCL before allegedly being appointed as an Assistant Commissioner and later promoted to Deputy Commissioner without passing either the provincial or federal competitive civil service examinations.

It further claimed that he was later transferred from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Punjab and subsequently appointed as Deputy Commissioner of Khushab.

He was then appointed Deputy Commissioner of Karachi Central by the Sindh government in July 2020 despite being an officer of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Management Service (PMS).

The appointment is alleged to have taken place shortly after a July 10, 2020, meeting in Karachi between Maulana Fazlur Rehman, former president Asif Ali Zardari, and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The claims also accuse Maulana Fazlur Rehman of using his political influence to secure government positions for family members and associates while criticising others over governance and accountability.
