SAMAHNI / BHIMBER (Kashmir English): Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) teacher community has strongly reacted to recent transfers of female teachers.

Ahmad Asif Shahid, Central Senior Vice President of School Teachers Organization Azad Kashmir; Qari Atiq-ur-Rehman, nominated Tehsil President of United Teachers Panel; and Naseer Ahmed, Tehsil Coordinator of United Teachers Panel Samahni, have expressed deep concern over the transfers of female educators.

Talking to the media, they stated that the repositioning of teachers at the peak of the academic session not only affects the operational flow of the education system but also negatively impacts students’ learning outcomes.

In their joint statement, they said that teachers consider transfers a part of government service and have always supported a uniform transfer policy. However, the policy should be implemented keeping in mind seasonal sensitivity and the academic calendar.

The teachers’ leaders stated that the world is rapidly moving towards educational innovation, but unfortunately, in their region, the policy narrative still seems to revolve around transfer politics, which is inconsistent with the fundamental objectives of educational governance.

Transfer of female teachers to remote areas

They termed the deployment of female teachers to remote areas as contrary to the principles of social equity and welfare management, stating that such postings not only affect classroom performance but also put unnecessary pressure on work-life balance.

The teachers’ leaders demanded from the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, the Minister of Education, and the Secretary of Education that the current transfers be immediately suspended, unnecessary adjustments be postponed until the end of the academic session, and all decisions be made under a uniform transfer policy and a merit-based framework.
