AJK Supreme Court holds key hearing on unsafe food, orders strict action

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): An important hearing was held in the Supreme Court of Azad Kashmir today regarding chemical-tainted milk, fake ice cream, and frozen foods in Muzaffarabad city.

The hearing was held in connection with the case of renowned social activist Shahid Zaman Awan vs. the Azad Government, in which serious issues related to public health and food quality were discussed.

During the hearing, senior officials of the Food Authority Muzaffarabad, the Mayor of the Municipality, Deputy Commissioner Muzaffarabad, and other concerned officers appeared in the court.

The court was informed that chemical-tainted milk, fake ice cream, and substandard frozen foods are being sold to the public in Muzaffarabad city, which poses serious risks to the health of the citizens.

The affected businessman, Haroon Rashid, was also present on the occasion, who pointed out the damage caused by these products. The discussions of renowned lawyers were also heard before the court during the hearing, while the case emphasized the protection of public interest and human lives.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Azad Kashmir made strong remarks while addressing the officials of the Food Authority. The Chief Justice said, “You have given people a license to eat dead meat. You have completely failed.”

It was also said in the court: “You are going to be tried, why not put you in handcuffs. No one is allowed to play with human lives.” The Chief Justice’s remarks made the atmosphere of the hearing serious and sensitive.

The court expressed deep dissatisfaction with the performance of the Food Authority and made it clear that no negligence in matters related to public health will be tolerated.
