MIRPUR (Kashmir English): Azad Jammu Kashmir Inland Revenue Department has reiterated its commitment to ensure implementation of the Track and Trace System to enhance transparency, improving tax compliance, and preventing illegal production and smuggling in the tobacco sector.
The move, officials believe, will ultimately lead to a significant increase in government revenue and overall improvement in the taxation system.
A meeting of the Inland Revenue Department was chaired by Syed Anser Ali, Commissioner Inland Revenue Department. He said, “The department affirmed the resolve at a high level and purposeful meeting regarding the effective and phased implementation of the Track and Trace System (TTS) in the Tobacco / Cigarette Manufacturing Sector in Azad Jammu & Kashmir”.
Sustainable taxation regime
Addressing the meeting, Commissioner IRD Syed Ansar Ali said that the Department stands fully committed to leveraging modern technology to make the tax system more efficient, transparent, and reliable, thereby ensuring the protection of state revenues and the establishment of a fair and sustainable taxation regime.
The meeting discussed in detail, all technical, operational, administrative, and legal aspects related to the implementation of the system.
Representatives of cigarette manufacturing units raised various technical and operational queries, which were comprehensively addressed by the relevant experts from the Federal Board of Revenue.
The meeting concluded with a consensus that the draft Tripartite Agreement would be shared with all concerned stakeholders within the next two to three days.
The said agreement shall be executed between the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Authentix, and the concerned Distributor / Party, according to the IRD spokesman.
The meeting decided that the signing ceremony of the Tripartite Agreement would be held shortly at the Federal Board of Revenue Headquarters, Islamabad, with the participation of all relevant stakeholders.
