MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Markets, businesses and transport services continued operating normally across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), despite a protest call issued by the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), according to local sources.
Commercial activities remained uninterrupted in major and smaller towns, including Muzaffarabad, Jhelum Valley, Neelum Valley, Mirpur, Bagh, Kotli and Bhimber, indicating that the committee’s call for statewide protests did not receive the anticipated public response.
The situation follows a recent incident in Rawalakot, where members of the proscribed Joint Public Action Committee allegedly opened fire on security forces. Three young men were killed in the incident, which subsequently triggered a heated exchange of accusations and competing narratives.
Following the incident, the committee launched a campaign against security forces, while concerns were raised about the use of the incident in propaganda targeting state institutions.
According to the supplied account, members of the committee also provided material to Indian media outlets, which was subsequently used in coverage of the situation.
Meanwhile, normal commercial and transport activities have resumed in Rawalakot after months of disruption, although tensions surrounding the incident remain.
The committee had called for protests across AJK, but local sources reported that markets and roads remained open in all major districts.
Authorities have reiterated their resolve to maintain law and order and prevent activities that could threaten public security. Security agencies and state institutions have also emphasized that legal action will be taken against individuals involved in violence and other unlawful activities.
