MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) High Court judge, Justice Mian Arif Hussain, retired, ending his extended career of more than two decades in the judiciary.

Justice Mian Arif Hussain, elevated as a Judge of the High Court on Jan 8, 2022, also served as acting chief justice of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir High Court in October 2023.

Upon his retirement, District Judiciary Muzaffarabad Division organised an Iftar dinner ceremony in honor of Justice Mian Arif Hussain on his retirement.

Chief Justice of the High Court Sadaqat Hussain Raja, who attended the ceremony, congratulated Justice Mian Arif Hussain on the successful completion of his service, adding that Mian Arif’s career is a great example for all.

The Chief Justice said that we believe in the strength of institutions, and respect for judicial decisions is mandatory for all of us.c

Addressing the ceremony, the chief guest Justice Mian Arif Hussain said that he reached this position due to the special grace of Allah.

“I worked in a factory and studied during this time, continued to move forward with dedication and passion, and got the honor of becoming a judge of the High Court,” the retiring judge stated.

The ceremony was also attended by the Chief Justice and Judges of the High Court including, Justice Sardar Muhammad Ijaz Khan, Justice Shahid Bihar, Justice Khalid Rashid Chaudhry, Registrar High Court, Secretary Law, District and Sessions Judges, Additional District and Sessions Judges, District Qazis, Additional District Qazis, Ehtesab Judge, and Judge Reference Court.

Justice Arif Hussain, hailing from Punjab’s Narowal District, started his career as an advocate in Tehsil Bar Ferozwala in Shikhupura district. Later, he was enrolled as an Advocate at Lahore High Court in 1995.

Justice Hussain joined the services of Azad Jammu & Kashmir Law Department as a Section Officer in 1996 and later he was transferred as a Civil Judge in June 2001.

Following his elevation to Senior Civil Judge in September 2006, he served in various positions including Additional District & Session Judge, Ehtesab Judge, and Judge of the Banking Court.

Later, he joined the Azad Kashmir High Court as Registrar on March 29, 2019, and was elevated to a Judge High Court on August 8, 2022.
