MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government on Thursday approved the status of Tehsil for Chakswari in Mirpur district, a day after approving a similar status for Garhi Dupatta.

According to a notification issued by the Board of Revenue, the President has approved the establishment of a new tehsil of Chakswari, consisting of 23 Mouzas and 8 Patwar Halkas, exercising powers vested in it under the West Pakistan Land Revenue Act 1967.

These Mouzas and Patwar Halkas were previously part of the Islamgarh subdivision.

The Patwar villages include Pind Khurd, Palak, Dheri Phuli, Deri Barwan, Panyam, Chakswari, Tangdeo, and Bua, the notification added.

This decision of the government is expected to make administrative matters in the area more effective, facilitate the provision of revenue and other government services to the people, and help in the immediate resolution of problems at the local level.

It should be remembered that the government of AJK has been taking steps to establish new tehsils and administrative units in various districts to bring administrative facilities to the doorsteps of the people.

Garhi Dupatta Tehsil

Earlier on June 3, the Board of Revenue of the AJK notified the establishment of a new tehsil, Tehsil Garhi Dupatta, in Muzaffarabad district.

As per the notification, the newly created tehsil will comprise nine Patwar Halkas that were previously part of the Muzaffarabad subdivision.

These include Langarpura, Thotha, Lavasi, Hattian Dupatta, Kai Manja, Dachhor Miran, Garhi Dupatta, Komikot, and Jhandgran.

The move is expected to improve administrative efficiency, enhance public service delivery, and facilitate residents in accessing government services closer to their homes.
