MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The first phase of polling for the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly General Elections 2026 commenced in a peaceful atmosphere across the state, with polling staff casting their votes at designated polling stations in all eight districts.
Chief Election Commissioner Justice (Retd.) Ghulam Mustafa Mughal visited several polling stations in Muzaffarabad to inspect polling arrangements, security measures and the overall electoral process.
During the visit, he interacted with polling staff and expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made by the Election Commission.
Speaking to the media, the Chief Election Commissioner said the polling process was being conducted in a transparent, free, fair and peaceful manner. He expressed confidence that the general elections scheduled for July 27 would also be held under the same transparent and peaceful environment.
He said the Election Commission had finalized all necessary arrangements to ensure every eligible voter can exercise their constitutional right to vote without any hindrance.
Candidates, polling agents and workers of various political parties were present at polling stations, while the election atmosphere remained calm and orderly. Election authorities also ensured strict implementation of the code of conduct inside and outside polling stations.
Comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place for the polling process. Police, Frontier Corps (FC) personnel and other law enforcement agencies have been deployed at polling stations, while district administration and Election Commission officials continue to monitor the process to ensure transparent and uninterrupted polling.
