JHELUM VALLEY (Kashmir English): Recent leopard attacks in the Meknet area of the Jhelum Valley district has left residents shaken and created an atmosphere of fear and panic.
The incident occurred when a leopard attempted to attack a young boy; however, the timely intervention of locals managed to thwart the attack as their noise scared the leopard away.
The incident has left the residents of the area extremely scared.
According to local sources, the leopard has been active in the area for the past few days and has so far killed two goats and two pet dogs.
Due to the continuous attacks, the residents of Meknet village are worried about their lives and property, with children too afraid to leave their homes.
A local citizen said, “The presence of the leopard has put the entire area in fear, especially the children are afraid to leave their homes. We appeal to the authorities to immediately bring this leopard under control or shift it to the forest.”
Residents have appealed to Deputy Commissioner Jhelum Valley and the Wildlife Department to capture or relocate the leopard to prevent potential harm to humans.
