NAPIER (Kashmir English): Pakistan logged an unwanted record as they played in the first ODI against New Zealand, conceding their third-highest number of extras in a single innings.

Pakistan’s captain Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and elected to field first at Napier — a decision that turned into a nightmare for its bowlers.

Pakistan bowlers give away 43 extra runs

The bowlers struggled with line and control over the ball, giving away 43 extra rue ns, including wides, byes and no-balls.

The breakdown for the extras included 2 no-balls, 7 byes, 13 leg byes, and 21 wides, marking one of Pakistan’s most undisciplined bowling performances in the 50-over format.

Pakistan’s record for the most extras conceded in an One-Day International remains 47, set in Manchester against the same opposition in 1999.

The team had also given away 44 extras against Sri Lanka in Sharjah (1990) and New Zealand in Dambulla (2003).

The performance raises concerns over Pakistan’s bowling discipline, especially as they look to recover in the remaining matches of the series.
