MIRPUR (Kashmir English): Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar in Indian Illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has expressed disappointment and regret that its President and esteemed figure Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Molvi Umar Farooq has once again been placed under house arrest by the Indian occupational forces, preventing him from delivering the Jumma sermon and offering congregational prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar on Friday.

According to a report reaching here from across the Line of Control, the Anjuman termed the Indian action as an arbitrary and unjustified move by the Indian authorities especially, at a time when the holy month of Ramzan is in progress.

Jamia Masjid is the main place of worship for thousands of Kashmiri Muslims where they gather for Friday prayers, seeking guidance, blessings, and connection with the Almighty.

The statement issued to the media in occupied Srinagar said that barring the Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir from fulfilling his religious obligations and preventing the faithful from benefiting from his sermons deeply hurts the religious sentiments of the people.

The Anjuman called it as disappointing and distressing for the people who come from far and wide to listen to Mirwaiz guidance.

“Such restrictions, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, are completely uncalled for and contrary to the principles of religious freedom,” the statement added.

Call for Mirwaiz’s release

The Anjuman demanded that Mirwaiz be immediately released from house arrest so that he could continue with his religious duties as the Mirwaiz and guide the people, as has been the long-standing of tradition of Mirwaizeen in Kashmir.

The Anjuman also urged the people in occupied Kashmir to continue their prayers and supplications in the holy month, seeking Allah’s mercy and guidance, and pray for relief from such unjustified curbs.
