LG representatives vow to resist any AJK govt move that weakens institutions

RAWALAKOT (Kashmir English): Local government representatives have warned the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government against any new legislation that weakens the local government institutions.

They said not only will there be a strong resistance, but also a systematic movement will be launched against the members of the assembly in the upcoming general elections.

The government should transfer funds and powers to the local government institutions as per the court decision instead of using delaying tactics, otherwise the local government representatives will not hesitate to take tough decisions to get their rights as per the mandate.

The focal person of the Local Government representatives, Chairman District Council Poonch Sardar Javaid Sharif Advocate expressed these views along with other representatives during a press conference at Ghazi-a- Millat Press Club.

On this occasion, Mayor Municipal Corporation Rawalakot Sardar Abdul Naheem, members of the Legal Committee Tariq Masood Advocate, Sardar Iftikhar Advocate, Media Coordinator Local Government Representatives Sardar Aftab Arif, Deputy Mayor Qazi Nisar, Nazir Khan, Sardar Naheem Khan, Sardar Tayyab, Sardar Aftab Bagh, Chairman Town Committee Khai Gala Sardar Talat Mahmood, Sardar Rashid Afraz, Sardar Aurangzaib, Khawaja Sajjad, Spokesperson Corporation Sardar Shahid Khurshid, Sardar Saeed, Sardar Qamar Jhangir, Zulfiqar Azad, Saeed Shah vice chairman UC Paniola Banakha, Murtaza Khan Nasir Khan and others were also present.

They said the Local Government representatives have risen above party lines, communities and tribes and are ready to reclaim their rights.

Members of the assembly who are against the transfer of powers and funds to the lower level will now have to face tough resistance in their respective constituencies.

They also vowed to take to the field in the form at the platform of an action committee, along with political leaders, lawyers, trade unions and various organizations, to make their movement more organized and effective.

They were responding to the press conference made by the government ministers a day back.

They said the government ministers’ statements were contrary to the facts and based on lies, on which local government representatives from all over Azad Kashmir.

Sardar Javaid Sharif Advocate said that the local government representatives would not rest until they take their rights back.

They said the rulers should implement the court decision to strengthen the local government institutions.

“If the ruling class shows indifference, remember that the people will reject them badly in the general elections and they will not even have a place to hide.”
