ISLAMABAD (Aamir Iqbal Hashmi): Former Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir and PPP leader Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan has decided to contest the upcoming general election from Neelum, former minister and MLA Javed Butt said in a video message.
Sardar Tanveer Ilyas had earlier announced to contest elections from the Central Bagh constituency. But reports allege that Sardar Qamar-uz-Zaman and Sardar Zia-ul-Qamar are not ready to give him the constituency, due to which he has decided to contest elections from LA 25 Upper Neelum.
Sardar Tanveer Ilyas had won the election from the Central Bagh constituency on a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket in the previous election in 2021.
The former prime minister’s native constituency is Bangui, Rawalakot, from where his uncle Sagheer Chughtai was a candidate in the previous election, but died in an accident before the election, after which his widow won the election.
Now the question is why Sardar Tanveer Ilyas needed to change the constituency after joining the PPP. Earlier, he had announced that he loves the people of the Central Bagh constituency and will contest the election from there.
On the other hand, Senior politician Sardar Qamar-uz-Zaman has been participating in the elections from both the Central Bagh and East Bagh constituencies for decades on a PPP ticket. Upon Tanveer Ilyas’s joining, there were reports that he would contest the election from the Central constituency, while Sardar Zia-ul-Qamar would contest the election from the East Bagh constituency.
There were reports that Sardar Qamar-uz-Zaman would not contest the election, but recently, Sardar Qamar-uz-Zaman surprised everyone by announcing that he would contest the election from the East Bagh constituency himself.
If Sardar Qamar-uz-Zaman contests the election from East Bagh, according to sources, government minister Sardar Zia-ul-Qamar is not ready to leave the central constituency. This has led Sardar Tanveer Ilyas to set sight on Neelum.
