ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Altaf Ahmed Bhat, Chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Salvation Movement, has strongly condemned the recent derogatory remarks made by BJP leader Sunil Sharma against the martyrs of July 13, 1931.

These remarks are not only an insult to the sacrifices of the Kashmiri people but also a deliberate attempt to distort history and undermine the legitimate struggle of Jammu and Kashmir, he said.

“The martyrs of 1931 stood against oppression and laid down their lives for justice, and no amount of propaganda can diminish their contribution to the cause of freedom and dignity.”

BJP and Hindutva ideology

The BJP’s continued attempts to impose its Hindutva ideology on Jammu and Kashmir by rewriting history and discrediting Kashmiri resistance are unacceptable.

Such statements are part of a broader strategy to erase the region’s identity and silence the voices of its people, he added.

Bhat further said that the people of Kashmir have always rejected such tactics and will continue to resist all efforts to distort their history and undermine their rights.

The widespread outrage sparked by these remarks is a testament to the deep respect Kashmiris hold for their martyrs.

Political and civil society organizations across Jammu and Kashmir have denounced this irresponsible statement, demanding a retraction and an unconditional apology. Bhat added.

The BJP leadership must take responsibility for the inflammatory rhetoric of its members and ensure that such reckless statements are not repeated.

Altaf Ahmed Bhat reiterated that no power can change the historical realities of Jammu and Kashmir.

The sacrifices of the people will never be forgotten, and their struggle for justice and dignity will continue despite all attempts to suppress it.

The Jammu Kashmir Salvation Movement remains committed to upholding the truth and will always stand against any attempt to distort the legacy of the Kashmiri resistance.
