LUCKNOW (Kashmir English): A 33-year-old Dalit man was beaten to death in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh in India.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the man, identified as Rajkumar alias Chhannu, was beaten to death by three co-workers near Gurunanak Dharamshala in Lalitpur district after he refused to massage their feet while they were drinking alcohol together.

Rajkumar belonged to a Scheduled Caste community. According to police, the accused assaulted him with a belt and an iron rod before dumping his body on a roadside to make the death appear like a road accident.

Additional SP Kalu Singh said the three accused asked Rajkumar to massage their feet. “When he refused, the three men assaulted him with a belt and an iron rod, resulting in his death on the spot,” he said. Police have arrested all three accused in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, a Dalit woman faced caste-based abuse, assault and death threats also in Uttar Pradesh.

Seema Devi from Kaushambi district’s Bairaspur village submitted a complaint to the Superintendent of Police demanding action against the accused.

She alleged that when her son objected to cast slurs by a villager, the accused summoned relatives who attacked him with sticks, causing head injuries.

When Seema Devi tried to intervene, she was also assaulted. Seema Devi said the accused threatened to kill her family if they approached police.

She added the same individuals had assaulted family members earlier.
