LAHORE (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted an extreme heatwave across the country, starting from today, and added that most of the plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), including Peshawar, would be “extremely hot and dry.”
Temperatures in several districts of the province were predicted to increase further over the next few days.
Rainfall expected in Upper Regions
Isolated areas in the upper regions like Swat, Dir, and Chitral were expected to experience thundershowers with rainfall in some isolated parts; however, over KP, heat was predicted to intensify further in the coming days, with temperatures likely to touch 46 °C at Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda, and Dera Ismail Khan.
“Heat wave conditions are likely to prevail in Islamabad, northern Punjab, and upper KP from today until June 10 with a change likely on June 11 and 12,” the PMD reported.
The temperature in Karachi was recorded at 29 °C, predicted at a max of 36 °C, and actual at 33 °C.
Meanwhile, rain was expected to occur in various parts of Punjab from evening onwards till May 12, with Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree, and Galiyat region, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Gujranwala, and Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Gujrat, Khushab, and Mandi Bahauddin were expected to experience rainfall.
A PDMA spokesperson stated that rain was also expected at Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Dera Ghazi Khan, and their surroundings. PDMA Director General asked all commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain vigilant.
