DHAKA (Kashmir English): Pakistan spinner Noman Ali broke a 130-year-old record with a brilliant performance in the first Test match against Bangladesh.
Noman Ali completed his 100 wickets in Test cricket by dismissing Mehdi Hasan Mirza during the match being played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
At the age of 39 years and 217 days, he became the oldest player to complete 100 wickets in Test history. He broke the record of former England spinner Bobby Peel in 1896, who achieved this honour at the age of 39 years and 180 days.
Noman Ali achieved this milestone in his 22nd Test match. He became the 9th Pakistani spinner and the 21st bowler overall to complete 100 wickets in Test cricket.
He took 3 crucial wickets in Bangladesh’s second innings, including those of captain Shantu and Tejal-ul-Islam.
With this achievement, Ali has become the joint-fourth fastest bowler for Pakistan to take 100 Test wickets and the third-fastest spinner.
Pak vs Ban: Bangladesh set 268-run target for Pakistan in Dhaka Test
Bangladesh has set Pakistan a target of 268 runs to win on the final day of the Dhaka Test after declaring their second innings at 240 for 9.
Resuming the fifth day at 152 for 3, Bangladesh added valuable runs through captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque. Shanto top-scored with 87 runs, while Mominul contributed 56.
Bangladesh suffered an early setback on the final morning when Mushfiqur Rahim was dismissed by Hasan Ali for 22 runs with the score at 164.
Later, Liton Das was removed by Shaheen Shah Afridi for 11 runs as Bangladesh lost their fifth wicket at 190.
For Pakistan, spinner Noman Ali and pacer Hasan Ali claimed three wickets each, while Shaheen Afridi picked up two wickets.
Pakistan now requires 268 runs in a minimum of 75 overs to secure victory in the Test match at Dhaka.
