MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission has suspended the schedule issued for elections on youth and women’s reserved seats in Union Council Tai, Poonch district.
Elections will remain postponed until the settlement of the writ petition filed in the High Court by young lawyer Kamran Bashir Advocate who argued that elections should have been held three years ago.

“The petitioner should be given the opportunity to participate in the election by including their name in the voter list.” Due to the matter pending in court, the Election Commission approved the suspension of the electoral process.
The next general elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) are expected to be held in July 2026.
The Election Commission has already commenced preparations, with the formal election schedule likely to be announced in mid-May 2026.
April 1, 2026, was fixed as the qualifying date for voter registration while final voter lists are expected to be displayed by April 30, 2026.
The Election Commission of AJK is expected to release the full schedule in May 2026.
