MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir Digital): On the anniversary of the Kunan Poshpora incident, Hurriyat leader Syed Mushtaq Hussain condemned the Indian army’s war crimes in Kashmir, criticised global silence, and urged a UN-backed resolution for lasting peace.

Senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Chapter), Syed Mushtaq Hussain, stated on Sunday that the Kunan Poshpora tragedy stands as undeniable evidence of the war crimes perpetrated by the Indian armed forces in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He emphasised that this harrowing incident serves as a stark reminder to the international community of its moral and legal obligations.

In his statement marking the anniversary of the Kunan Poshpora incident, Mushtaq Hussain vehemently condemned the atrocities committed by the Indian army. He underscored how sexual violence has been systematically employed as a weapon of war in Kashmir to suppress the region’s legitimate and UN-recognised right to self-determination.

He further pointed out that while women are honoured and respected in civilised societies across the globe, the ruling elite of India have deprived Kashmiri women of dignity and security. According to him the Kunan Poshpora incident illustrates plainly the institutionalized Brahminical mentality. According to his perspective, the people of Kashmir hold lasting memories of this atrocity and all the cruel actions that have been executed against their community.

According to Mushtaq Hussain, the situation demanded serious attention because any pursuit of justice from India in such cases is hopeless. He pointed out the unacceptable behaviour of the United Nations and other civilised nations that remain silent about this matter although they lack moral integrity. According to him, many Kashmiris who started international campaigns about this tragedy received major consequences through Indian government persecution and imprisonment.

He declared that for many years Kashmirites have endured Indian persecution through institutional massacres and brutal murders together with unlawful detention and persistent physical and mental abuse. He expressed optimism about the Kashmiri people’s resistance because Indian cruelty throughout history failed to diminish their strength. Their struggle against Indian occupation, in one form or another, continues unabated.

Mushtaq Hussain urged the international community to acknowledge that without a just resolution to the Kashmir issue in line with UN resolutions, lasting peace in South Asia will remain an unachievable goal.
