MURREE (Kashmir English): The police have made special arrangements to ensure the convenience and security of tourists visiting Murree during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays this year, which is set to start from March 20.

District Police Officer (DPO) Murree has directed tourists to download the “Safe Tourism Murree app” before traveling so that they can get immediate access to the police and emergency services.

According to the DPO Murree, there is a possibility of rain and thunderstorms during the Eid days, so tourists should travel with caution and check the latest weather conditions before departure.

He said that unnecessary travel should be avoided in case of severe weather, and the instructions of the traffic police should be followed completely.

According to the officials, the Safe Tourism Murree app is a useful facility for tourists through which they can directly contact the police and get immediate help in an emergency. Information related to Murree’s hotels, important tourist attractions, and safety zones is also available in this app.

DPO Murree said that a large number of tourists are expected to arrive on the occasion of Eid, so citizens and tourists have been asked for cooperation so that traffic flow is maintained and all people can enjoy tourism in a safe environment.

Eid holidays

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially declared Friday and Saturday, March 20 and 21, as public holidays across Pakistan to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Sunday.

The notification serves as a continuation of the earlier holiday circular from January 19.

“In continuation of Cabinet Division’s circular dated 19 January 2026 specifying public and optional holidays for the year 2026, the Prime Minister has been pleased to declare 20th and 21st March (Friday and Saturday) as public holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, both for offices observing 5-day and 6-day working weeks,” read the notification.

The decision ensures a unified break for all government employees, applying to offices that observe both five-day and six-day working weeks.

The notification effectively declares a four-day-long weekend for the nation.

Murree Glass Train Route

In a separate development, the government has decided to extend the route of the Murree Glass Train up to Muzaffarabad.

Earlier, it was planned that the train would ply between the Lake View Park in Islamabad and the Murree Bus Stand. The authorities have now decided that the train will run from Islamabad Airport up to Muzaffarabad.

The decision was taken in a special meeting held at Government House, Murree, chaired by Pakistan Muslim League (N) President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, where it was agreed to extend the Glass Train Project up to Muzaffarabad.

Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb briefed the meeting that a historic package worth billions of rupees has been approved for the development of Murree and its surrounding areas, which is being termed as the largest development program in Murree’s history.

In the meeting, it was decided to make Kotli Sattian the most modern tourism hub of Punjab. As many as 14 tourism schemes were also approved.

An eco-friendly glamping pod village and resort, Punjab’s first modern paragliding center, a sky glass bridge for tourists, and a new chairlift project will be established here, while the Patriata chairlift will also be repaired and upgraded.
