ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Islamabad district administration has initiated action against petrol pumps refusing to sell petrol and diesel to citizens amid the possibility of fuel crises in the context of the changing regional situation.

In a public advisory issued on his X account, the Deputy Commissioner has urged the citizens to lodge the complaint with the control room of Islamabad’s district administration if any fuel station refuses to provide petrol or diesel.

“If any petrol pump in Islamabad refuses to provide you with petrol/diesel, immediately contact the Control Room of the District Administration Islamabad at number 051 9108084 or inform us via social media,” the DC wrote.

The development came after rumors circulating on social media suggested a shortage of petroleum products in Pakistan.

Following the reports, a large number of citizens have reached the fuel station to get petrol and stock up on bottles in addition to their vehicles.

Amidst this, several petrol pumps have been shut down for alleged hoarding of petrol and diesel.

PM directs strict action against petroleum products hoarders

Earlier today, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed provincial governments to take strict legal action against hoarders of petroleum products.

He was chairing a high-level meeting regarding petroleum products in Islamabad, according to a handout by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The Prime Minister said any petrol pump involved in this nefarious practice of creating artificial shortages should be immediately closed, and OGRA should cancel its license and initiate legal proceedings.

During the meeting, the Ministry of Petroleum gave a detailed briefing about stocks of petroleum products in the country. “Sufficient reserves of petroleum products are available in the country to meet national needs,” the statement said.

Shehbaz Sharif instructed the Minister for Petroleum to visit the provinces and, in coordination with provincial governments, develop a plan of action for the conservation of petroleum products and ensuring their uninterrupted supply to the public.

He also directed that a dashboard be created to monitor the movement of petroleum products, through which real-time data will be shared with the provinces, and the transportation of petroleum products will be closely supervised.
