KARACHI (Kashmir English): Social media reports claiming that the US Consulate in Karachi has been set on fire have been declared completely false and misleading.

According to official sources, only a small group of miscreants reached the outer periphery of the consulate premises, where a tyre was set ablaze.

Authorities confirmed that the smoke seen in circulating images and videos was caused by tear gas shells and minor fires involving tyres and wooden sticks at a distance from the main building.

The situation was swiftly brought under control, and security at the consulate has been significantly beefed up in view of the prevailing regional situation.

The Situation is Under Control

Azad Khan, Karachi Police Chief, stated that he is personally present at the consulate and overseeing security arrangements. He confirmed that a small number of individuals who managed to barge into the outer area have been removed and dispersed.

Officials emphasized that there has been no damage to the main consulate building and that law enforcement agencies are maintaining strict vigilance.

The Government of Sindh is expected to address the media shortly in a press conference to provide further details on the incident and security measures.

Authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information and to rely only on official statements.
